<abstract>Statewide data indicating 100 year floodplains.
Areas with a 1% annual chance of flooding within the State of Texas is a subset of FAFDS nationwide Floodmap database. The Database is derived from Flood Insurance Studies (FISs), previously published Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), flood hazard analyses performed in support of the FISs and FIRMs, and new mapping data, where available. The FISs and FIRMs are published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Individual files representing all counties within the State of Texas are georeferenced to earth's surface using a geographic coordinate system. The specifications for the horizontal control of FAFDS data files are consisitent with those required for mapping at a scale of 1:24,000.</abstract>
<purpose>To show the 100 year floodplains in the state of Texas for the Texas Hazard Mitigation Package (THMP).
FAFDS Floodmap Database presents the flood risk information depicted on the FIRMs and associated documents and data in a digital format suitable for use in electronic mapping applications. Although primarily intended for flood hazard determination business, FAFDS Floodmap database can be used for floodplain management, mitigation, risk assessment, disaster response and recovery planning, environmental impact planning, and site selection.</purpose>
<supplinf>Data covers 244 counties, 10 other counties did not have any data.</supplinf>

<complete>Data contained in FAFDS Floodmap Database files reflect the content of the source materials. Features may have been eliminated or generalized on the source graphic, due to scale and legibility constraints.
Flood risk data are developed for communities participating in the NFIP for use in insurance rating and for floodplain management. Flood hazard areas are determined using statistical analyses of records of river flow, storm tides, and rainfall; information obtained through consultation with communitities; floodplain topographic surveys; and hydrological and hydraulic analysis. Both detailed and approximate analyses are employed. Generally, detailed analyses are used to generate flood risk data only for developed or developing areas of communities. For more areas were little or no development is expected to occur, FEMA uses approximate analyses to generate flood risk data. Typically, only drainage areas that are greater than one square mile are studied.</complete>
