This map shows both National Flood Insurance Program and Flood Mitigation Assistance repetitive loss and severe repetitive loss aggregated by county, city, and census tract. Data obtained from FEMA in April 2025.

A NFIP Repetitive Loss Structure is a structure that meets the NFIP definition of repetitive loss, which is a structure covered by a contract for flood insurance under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) that has incurred flood-related damage on two occasions during a 10-year period, each resulting in at least a $1000 claim payment.

A NFIP Severe Repetitive Loss Structure is a structure that meets the NFIP definition of severe repetitive loss, which is a structure covered by a contract for flood insurance under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) that has incurred flood-related damage — for which 4 or more separate claims payments have been made under flood insurance coverage under this title, with the amount of each such claim exceeding $5,000, and with the cumulative amount of such claims payments exceeding $20,000; or for which at least 2 separate claims payments have been made under such coverage, with the cumulative amount of such claims exceeding the value of the insured structure. In addition, the structure must be residential and two of the losses must have occurred within 10 years of each other.

A FMA Repetitive Loss Structure is a structure that meets the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) definition of repetitive loss, which is a structure covered by a contract for flood insurance under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) that has incurred flood-related damage on 2 occasions, in which the cost of repair, on the average, equaled or exceeded 25 percent of the value of the structure at the time of each such flood event; and at the time of the second incidence of flood-related damage, the contract for flood insurance contains increased cost of compliance coverage.

A FMA Severe Repetitive Loss is a structure that meets the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) definition of severe repetitive loss, which is a structure covered by a contract for flood insurance under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) that has incurred flood-related damage — for which 4 or more separate claims payments have been made under flood insurance coverage under this title, with the amount of each such claim exceeding $5,000, and with the cumulative amount of such claims payments exceeding $20,000; or for which at least 2 separate claims payments have been made under such coverage, with the cumulative amount of such claims exceeding the value of the insured structure.

Occupancy Type was aggregated by each city for NFIP RL + SRL combined. The method utilized was the "Old Methodology" provided by FEMA which only included 5 types: 2-4 FAMILY, BUSI-NONRES, OTHER RESID, OTHR-NONRES, SINGLE FMLY. Claims using the new methodology for Occupancy were consolidated into the original 5 types.

To request additional NFIP data from FEMA please visit https://www.twdb.texas.gov/financial/programs/FMA/doc/TWDB-RequestforNFIP-PII.docx.

|

Location information has been redacted to protect personal privacy. Location information is derived from reported address, geocoding of that address, and reported NFIP community. Because NFIP insurance claims data spans the history of the NFIP, many of the structures have poor address information resulting in poor or missing coordinates and additional location fields that rely on those coordinates. An effort has been made to fill in missing data and resolve conflicts between state, county, community, and census block group. Because of this effort, statistics derived from this data may differ from those reported elsewhere by FEMA or others.

The occupancy/property type is based on Occupancy_1 from the RLSRL dataset provided by FEMA. Properties utilizing the new methodology for Occupancy Type were consolidated into the "Old Method" original 5. For more accurate and detailed information please contact FEMA.

|
