Description: Pecos Valley Aquifer grid of total dissolved solidsUnits: tds range, floating point. This dataset was created using well points with values of total dissolved solids obtained during the years 1930 - 2010, with the most recent sample recorded for each well. The toal dissolved solids content was segregated into TDS ranges, with integer values of: 1 = 0-999 mg/L TDS; 2 = 1000 - 2999 mg/L TDS; 3 = 3000 - 9999 mg/L TDS; and 4 > 10000 mg/L TDS. This point file was converted into a surface grid using the inverse distance weighted algorithm., with resulting floating point values with ranges of: 1-1.49 = 0-999 mg/L TDS; 1.5 - 2.49 = 1000 - 2999 mg/L TDS; 2.5-3.49 = 3000 - 9999 mg/L TDS; and > 3.49 = > 10000 mg/L TDS. This grid was used to define the extent of waters with the listed TDS ranges. When this extent was applied to the saturated thickness grid of the Pecos Valley Aquifer, volumes of water with specified TDS ranges could be computed.This dataset was prepared to meet a specific purpose as described in the following report, which is available on the TWDB website:Meyer, J.E., Wise, M.R., and Kalaswad, S., 2011, Pecos Valley Aquifer, West Texas: Structure and Brackish Groundwater: Texas Water Development Board, report in preparation.The data used to prepare this dataset is also available in the Brackish Resources Aquifer Characterization System (BRACS) MS Access Database, data dictionary, and raw data files (digital geophysical well logs and water well information).
